The Bad Seed is a movie about a little girl named Rhoda, who behaves in a very weird way for a young girl. She is portrayed as spoiled, arrogant, and just a full on naughty child. She gets extremely aggressive when she wants something or feels threatened by someone as in the movie. This is shown when she spends time with her aunt Monica. Aunt Monica is very fond of Rhoda and gives her presents and condones her bratty behaviour while her mom, Christine shows her distaste towards it but does not correct it and chooses to ignore it. Rhoda is also impulsive and sneaky which are two of the characteristics that Mr. Tasker mentioned to Christine. I do believe that some people are born with mental disabilities that make them psychotic like serial killers and insanely gruesome people who get pleasure from committing horrible crimes but I don’t think it’s a normal thing for everyone. It is rare and only occurs in some people. Out of the three theories, I agree with the Tabula Rasa theory. Tabula Rasa is the theory that humans are born as “blank slates” like an empty board with no certain behaviour traits. It’s a belief that we get our characteristics based on our experiences as we grow up just like childhood is extremely important time in a child’s development (Nicoloff, 2015). It is the key to our development because it makes us who we are and how we’ll be when we get older. I think that if a child is raised to treat people respectfully and knows what’s bad and good, they won’t have these bad tendencies. When you look at a baby, you do not see them as evil beings. Babies follow the people around them. They grab information from their surroundings. They come into the world without a clue of what’s going on and I think its parents jobs to lead them to the right side. If babies were truly born evil, I don’t think people would be so excited to have kids. In the news, I see plenty of teenagers and even younger kids doing terrible things but they were said to have a purpose for it. They were either not treated right by their parents or they were bullied. We may all have a switch in our brains that can be flipped on when we experience bad, tense emotions that cause us to head to extreme measures to stop it like those two boys that brought a gun and began shooting people in their school because of bullies that wouldn’t leave them alone. All humans are capable of committing evil actions but we aren’t born with these evil urges. We learn them based on our
