“Gluten free in Afghanistan” is a fairly new book published in 2012 by Captain Donald Andrasik who served in the Army National Guard. In the book Andrasik shares his story of maintaining a gluten free diet while being overseas fighting at war in Afghanistan. In “Gluten Free Soldier in Afghanistan” by Amy Ratner she breaks down Andrasik’s book and reviews it while expressing her thoughts throughout her article. Ratner graduated from Penn State University and is currently a member of Beyond Celiac, a nonprofit organization that unites with patients and partners to drive diagnosis, advance research and accelerate the discovery of new treatments and a cure. As Ratner says, “It's fighting two battles on foreign soil” the article captures Andrasik’s
I completely agree with Dr. Perlmutter that wheat and, from a larger perspective, gluten can have a huge impact upon the brain and other parts of the body. I have seen my own mother suffer with multiple sclerosis and know she could benefit from eliminating gluten and other dietary changes. Plus, I have had less neurological issues since going gluten free over 10 years ago. Dr. Perlmutter provides scientific proof and information of the evils of grains, especially gluten, on the body and points to the inflammation factor as the cause. On page 62, he remarks “… no organ is more susceptible to the deleterious effects of inflammation than the brain.”

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a brain-based developmental disorder that involves multiple abnormal perceptual, cognitive, linguistic and social behaviors. With rates of Autism Spectrum Disorder rising, it is important that we improve our understanding of the causes of the disorder and become more culturally aware and sensitive to screening for the disorder in order to find effective interventions. Understanding of the current clinical picture, etiology and treatment of ASD will be discussed. Autism was a label coined in the early 20th century from the Greek word autos meaning “self” as it was used to refer to individuals who would “withdrawal from the fabric of social life into the self” (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015, pp.210). Throughout the USA there has been many cases of autism with more than 3.5 million people living with it. 1 in 68 children have been diagnosed with autism. Making parents struggle on whether to rely on antipsychotic drugs to repress some of the symptoms. In Emmilie Buchanan-Whitlock article What are psychotropic drugs doing to autistic children?, reflects through stats, personal accounts and medical terms how psychotropics are effective on repressing autism symptoms and how it doesn’t determine the Quality of life of the child that uses it. Although psychotropics like risperidone and aripiprazole are effective in repressing irritably and withdrawal, it’s not enough to go against a big scope like autism.
I can no longer go to places that rely on gluten as a main ingredient in their dishes, like places that serve pasta, noodles, breads, pastries, breaded meats, or other things like that. I can no longer ask my mom to order me a large pizza with pineapple, ham, and bacon (I can order a small gluten-free crust pizza with two toppings at domino’s for about $10

Ward off contaminating your gluten free food by purchasing separate condiments to keep bread crumbs out of shared containers. Use several toasters or a toaster oven that can be cleaned or lined with tinfoil. Keep counters, cutting boards, utensils and pans free of particles containing gluten. Living with celiac disease does not mean you can not enjoy eating out. Some restaurants even have gluten free menus.
#7: One passage that I thought was very powerful was when Jane was about to tell Mr. Rochester that she was going to leave Thornfield. “The vehemence of emotion, stirred by grief and love within me, was claiming mastery, and struggling for full sway; and asserting a right to predominate: to overcome, to live, rise, and reign at last; yes, -and to speak,” (Brontë Vol. 2 pg 16). The depth of emotions the words had made this paragraph seem to stick out from the others in importance and give power to it. By personifying “the vehemence of emotion”, Brontë made it seem as if Jane was reluctant to say anything but her emotions got the better of her.

Describe the three main cognitive theories of autism (i.e., Theory of Mind, Executive dysfunction, Weak Central Coherence) and evaluate how well they explain autistic symptoms. Autism was originally a term that was coined by Bleuler in his paper “Dementia praecox oder Grupper der Shizophrenien” published in 1911. In this paper the term was used to refer to a form of schizophrenia characterised by extreme isolation. The word autism originates from the Greek word ‘autos’ meaning self. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that is characterised by challenges with communication, difficulty with social interactions and a likelihood to engage in repetitive behaviour.
(https://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/celiac-disease/celiac-disease#1, n.d.) The gluten free diet is mandatory for people diagnosed with Celiac disease. 3 million Americans or possibly more have this disease and eating gluten worsens the problem. The reason
Since dietary intervention is not a new idea. Many researchers have manipulated diet and one of the most famous dietary interventionists is Feingold. Feingold placed children with developmental disabilities and hyperactive children on a diet that was free of additives and salicylate (as cited in Elder et al.,2006). Gluten and Casein are proteins that are metabolized into peptides which turn into amino acids that are absorbed by the capillaries that are located in the intestines (Elder et. Al, 2006).
Autism is a disorder in the nerves that makes the human brain socially inactive, and in order to understand it, several main aspects must be considered. Although autism
Magazines and websites everywhere now have celebrities advertising their latest switch to the gluten-free diet. This forced way of life for those with Celiac disease has now become trendy amongst those who can tolerate gluten. Non-celiacs across the world are now taking this protein out of their diet in hopes to lose weight, become healthier, and gain energy; however the opposite effect is taking place in many cases. Removing gluten from one’s diet when they do not have celiac disease or any other gluten allergy is not beneficial and in a handful of cases is harmful.
