Throughout the bible the narratives are the dominating genre and high in numbers which is about 40 percent in the bible are the narratives. Some of the narratives are very subtle and implicit to understand and complex to narrate the story and most of the narratives has ambiguity and does not give a clear comprehension of the text. And in order to get the whole picture of a narrative the reader should take a prudent reading of the narratives which comes along with the preliminary principles and precautions that helps to understand and saves the time of misunderstanding the scripture. Instead of direct commandment or ordering what to do and what not to do, the narration makes it clear by showing a picture and easily understandable. The narration genre gives a different perceiving sense for God’s word. And it should be God’s intention for us to hear his voice in a different way. And since the narration is basically a story, it would be interesting to understand what God is trying to say through a passage or narration. THE NATURE AND PURPOSE OF NARRATIVES
The primary intention of narratives or stories in the Old Testament is to keep his audience entertained. As in the movie television there are humorous and dramas that gets hold of us to grab the purpose of the story. The story of David and Goliath and the story of Birth of Jesus Christ though it has a message, it is still an entertaining story. The beauty of the narration is makes our imagination grow and ponder the story which will last long and be memorable.
Stories or narratives in general are very easy way of communication to make a person or crowd for quick understanding. For example the movies of Charlie Chaplin who was an infamous comedian who never spoke in his movie but the narration itself will make the audience understand the movie. And another example the message that is conveyed in a video is more effective than the message that is conveyed in an audio. When it comes to narration it is important to know the message in the narration is not just an entertainment though it is according to John A. Beck but still it is God who is trying to speak to his people through the narrations. It is pretty impressive that God is using such a method in order to make people understand and not just to hear what he has to say but help the reader to see the whole picture by understanding, as the narrator narrates the
