The Bicycle Tante Rose Analysis

In the short story “The bicycle”, Tante rose is Hannah's aunt and her piano teacher. She was once a famous pianist but was forced to quit when she was diagnosed with arthritis. She is very religious and practises Judaism. In the story, Tante rose is a controlling and strict person. She controls Hannah’s (her niece's life) and is very strict when it comes to her rules. Firstly, Hannah has never admitted to enjoying playing the piano, as she was always told to nourish her special gift. “I had no choice.” (Pg 34). Throughout her childhood, Hannah has been controlled by Tante Rose, who had hoped for life of a concert pianist for her niece. Tante Rose controls Hannah’s life by reducing her time to play with other children. “I worked hard this winter.
