The books Night and The Autobiography of Malcolm X can be compared and contrasted in a variety of ways. The memoir Night by Elie Wiesel and the autobiography The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X can be compared to one another. The theme and characterization in Night and The Autobiography of Malcolm X can be compared while the styles between the two authors can be contrasted. This essay will compare the books Night and The Autobiography of Malcolm X focusing on the similarities between the themes and characterization and the differences in the authors’ styles.
In the Autobiography of Malcolm X, the quarrel with West Indian Archie acts as the catalyst in the transformation of Malcolm X into an educated and passionate Muslim man. Malcolm’s activities leading up to the conflict and his arrest were nothing but immoralities. Although he knew the confrontation and his incarceration were the end of his underground existence, little did he know, they were undoubtedly the most critical experiences in his life. Prior to the disagreement, Malcolm was living a life of constant danger. He was trapped in addiction.
Malcolm was born on, May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother was Norton little and his was Earl little. The family had eight children. Earls civil rights activism caused death threats from white people. Their Lansing, Michigan home was burned to the ground.
Thesis: In “The Autobiography of Malcolm X”, Malcolm X in his telling of his life to Alex Haley uncovers the theme of positive and negative environments unearthed by the interaction of African Americans and White Americans in his life and what those kinds of environments inherently produce. This shows, as described by the cited work, what a man pushed by his negative interactions with the oppressive white men is willing to do to find his identity (i.e. through hustling).
Frederick Douglass and Malcom X created some of the most famous African-American pieces to ever be released. They were written to reveal how hard the process of learning to read was back during the slave era. Douglass had a chapter in his narrative ”Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” called “Learning to Read and Write,” it was written in 1845. Malcolm X’s “Learning to Read,” is an excerpt from,” the Autobiography of Malcolm X“. These two pieces were written more than a century apart yet several common themes can still be identifies.
Throughout the Autobiography of Malcolm X there are several key events the bring out the central ideas of the text. Some examples of the key events was when Mr. Ostrowski lectured Malcolm, when Malcolm was in jail and he learned the teachings of Elijah Muhammad, and when Malcolm made his pilgrimage to Mecca. A closer look at the central ideas would show that they build on one another. When Malcolm was going to school his teacher, Mr. Ostrowski, told home to give up his dream of being a lawyer,” Malcolm, one of life’s first needs is to be realistic.
The Expansion of Georgia came with many conflicts such as the treaty of New York that was established in 1790 and caused the creeks to move west of the Okeene River. There was also the Yazoo land fraud that started in 1795 and caused Georgia to give up all of the land involved in the fraud to Georgia. Indian removal caused a decrease in population within Georgia but made Georgia to gain more land. Events that accrued during that time affected Georgia economy, social growth and population. Abraham Baldwin wrote the first charter for the University of Georgia.
Due to Malcolm X’s struggles in his early life, he dealt with an internal anger and resentment towards the white race, which lead to him rebelling and acting out. When Malcolm X was only 6 years old, criminals murdered his father and sparked an internal flame of hatred. His anger convinced him to commit various crimes such as stealing. This acted as a way to rebel against his family and the white community; he would not accept going unnoticed, nor would he accept others as they treated him as inferior. Not only did young Malcolm steal, but he also fought frequently with his family members.
Now, I do not read nearly as much as I used to. I have become very picky, and it takes much more for me to become engrossed in a book. I am more inclined to reading works of fiction with intricate, intriguing plots and complicated characters that make me think, or stories that explore new ideas that I can run away with. Malcolm X was not so particular. He was ever curious and was always striving to satisfy his curiosity through reading.
What were Malcolm X’s beliefs? What did he hope to see change, and how for that matter did he believe he could make those changes happen? Malcolm X’s motives are further explored as author Cornel West goes into depth and critiques Malcolm X’s tactics, such as black rage and psychic conversion, why they were such an important part of his philosophy, and if he believed said tactics were effective.
Malcolm X “You can’t separate peace from freedom, because nobody can be at peace unless he has his freedom.” These words came from the mouth of Malcolm X, but who was he? Some people call him deranged, others call him too radical. But truthfully, Malcolm X was one of the most influential African Americans in history.
Malcolm X has the showing of a hero because of him fighting for freedom, education, and equality. What would it be like to live in a place where the color of your skin determined if you could get a cheeseburger at your favorite restaurant, or where you have to go to school, and even be able to drink out of a drinking fountain or have to use the dog fountain. Well life isn 't like that since Malcolm X fought for freedom, education, and equality. He lived in a very racist community which burned down their house and killed his father. He was in foster homes for the rest of his childhood, then went to prison for 10 years after he turned into a street “juggie” after that he became a minister and an activist and spent the rest of his life persisting in America to achieve freedom, education, and freedom.
Malcolm X was an influential African-American leader he also rose to prominence in the mid-1950s. Malcolm opposed the mainstream civil rights movement, publicly calling for black separatism and rejecting nonviolence and integration into combatting racism by. Malcolm X once said “Early in life [he] had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.” The Black Panther Party lived by this quote. The party rose from the foundations of Malcolm X. The party was much different from other civil rights movements. They went by direct confrontation.
What makes a leader? I believe a leader to be intelligent ,tough, and has the determination to achieve a goal. Having certain skills will have an impact on you being a trustable leader. Being selfless and caring are also characteristics. Malcolm X his birth name Malcolm Little is a fine a example of a leader and has most of these leadership qualities.
