The birds at the beginning of the story start off by one in the window, then two, but as the story goes on they multiply. The kids rooms get filled and the kids panic. Nat Hocken is their only hope of living. In the short story, “The Birds,” by Daphne Du Maurier, the main character, Hocken repeatedly lied to his family because, the children were too young, the children needed to remain calm, and to keep his family protected and safe. Some things happen that the kids are too young to see or hear.
