The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks is about a woman’s cancer and how her “immortal” cells furthered today’s scientific knowledge. “Henrietta Lacks was born Loretta Pleasant in Roanoke, Virginia, on August 1, 1920” (Skloot 18). When Henrietta was 4, her mom died and her dad left her with her grandfather, Tommy Lacks in Clover, Virginia. She stayed in Clover with her cousins and worked on a tobacco farm from dawn till dusk.
In The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, the main character Henrietta Lacks died from cervical cancer in 1951. Fortunately a few months before she died, her doctor took a little sample of her cancerous cells. This is important because this was the first and most important types of human cells ever to live and produce endlessly. She is famous because her cells helped out scientists all over to make some of the most valuable discoveries in up to date medical history. The bad news about this was her cells were taken without any of her consent.
The description given about Venus tells us many things about her personality, that she is shyer than the rest of her siblings, doesn’t shine as bright compared to the bravery of her brother and the intelligence of her sister. After all, she is only a planet. The wording her dad uses describing this gift The novel The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is a memoir of her increasingly difficult and troubling life. Throughout these adventures her and her three siblings travel to many places from California to Phoenix, to the quite backward town of Welch, and to New York City itself. In which, her relationship with her parents and family is at times, straining and at the times, one of the strongest relationships she has.
At a first glance, it is apparent that Titian’s Venus of Urbino and Cranach’s Nymph of the Spring share many similarities. One major similarity between these two pieces is the time period in which both were made in. Titian’s Venus of Urbino was made in 1538 while Cranach’s Nymph of the Spring was created around the year 1537. Both paintings depict women laying down comfortably in the nude as the main subjects of each piece. Both pieces could be considered portraits of these women.
In the poem, “ Let America be America again”, Langston Hughes asserts that America does not live up to what it actually should be. Hughes’ tone seems to be angry and [exasperated]. He implicates the perspective of one particular group, but many people. The poem represents that many people come here with high hopes and big dreams but they are let down. He states that [prosperity] is one of the reasons that there is an economic inconsistency where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.
Dealing With Conflict and Hard Times When it comes to dealing with tough times such as going to internment camps or hiding from Nazi soldiers so that they aren’t taken to centration camps, there are three important questions that come into play; What motivates people to move through hard times and moments? , What can people do to help others going through tough problems?, and Who can people go to to help them through tough times or conflict? I think that people can best respond to conflict by staying strong through courageousness and always having people in their life to talk to.

The two pieces of art I will discuss is Edouard Manet’s ‘Olympia’ and Mary Cassatt 's ‘Woman in Black at the Opera’. Manet’s Olympia was not critically accepted, the reaction to his painting was negative, only four critics out of sixty were favorably disposed to Olympia. Olympia was a derivative of Titian 's Venus. In 1863 the critics and the viewers didn’t know how to take Olympia, “they were unable to cope with so many novel factors and so they were unable to categorize the picture and so were unable to analyze it or understand it in any context” (Laurence, 2012). Nowadays we are more open minded and are able to see the painting in a different light.
Metaphors and emotions show the representation of the sun. Also, someone could argue that the sun symbolizes patience. On Venus they wait seven years in the rain just to see the sun for an hour. They have to be patient because the time won’t go any faster.
The 1940s were a crucial time all over the world with hardships and wars going on for years. Within these wars, two little girls that have been apart of it their whole lives, have shared their experiences through a diary and a book of stories. The Diary of Anne Frank is about a young jewish girl named Anne Frank, who has to go into hiding with her family in order to not get caught and taken away by the Nazis in Amsterdam, and while in hiding, records her experiences and thoughts into her diary. Farewell to Manzanar is a book based on a girl named Jeanne Wakatsuki who is seven years old at the time, and gets taken away with her family to Manzanar encampments, as the U.S. government doesn’t want to risk any Japanese Americans possibly giving up information to the Japanese as they are at war with them. Anne Frank and Jeanne Wakatsuki have many similarities and differences throughout their lifetimes on the run from the war.
Is it really efficient to respond to conflict in violent ways, if in the end, it never makes a difference? The most efficient ways to respond to conflict are through a positive attitude, perseverance, and resilience. It is important to understand why problems occur, so they can be easily resolved. Being the ¨leader¨ of the situation, and ¨killing with kindness¨ are solutions that work in many conflicts. Many times, the problem between two people is fixed because of someone making a nice gesture, comment, etc.
Euripides created a modern day woman who seeks justice and revenge with her cleverness and power. Medea acted as a feminine heroine who established that women can also be as strong as men. The feeling of being left by someone you love is truly painful hence, Medea expressed her emotions as much as she can and mourned for her lost. It is true that women can be sensitive and emotional so there was Medea portraying a usual woman in an unusual manner.
Like Desdemona, Imoinda is portrayed as Coramantien’s beauty; who catches the attention and desired by every man. This is shown in Behn’s description of Imoinda. “To describe her truly, one need say only, she was female to the noble male; the beautiful black Venus to our young Mars; as charming in her person as he, and of delicate virtues. I have seen a hundred white men sighing after her, and making a thousand vows at her feet, all in vain, and unsuccessful.” (Behn 81).
