I believe that the narrators of "The Black Cat" as well as "The Tell-Tale Heart” are both unreliable. An unreliable narrator is a first-person point of view narrative. Both "The Tell-Tale Heart” as well as "The Black Cat" are told in first person point of view. They both use phrases such as “I” and “we.” The narrator in "The Black Cat" says, “For months I could not rid myself of the phantasm of the cat; and, during this period, there came back into my spirit a half-sentiment that seemed, but was not, remorse.” Also in "The Tell-Tale Heart” the narrator says, “I knew what the old man felt, and pitied him, although I chuckled at heart.” Although, neither narrator is reliable, I believe that the narrator of "The Black Cat" is more reliable than …show more content…
He has a wife as well as a cat. Unlike the narrator of "The Tell-Tale Heart,” who is paranoid and does not have any friends. The narrator doesn’t even know the difference between real and unreal. Unreliable narrators hold grudges and they may be prejudice towards someone or something. Both narrators definitely committed murder, but one was planned and the other was not. In "The Tell-Tale Heart,” the narrator planned his murder. Since he had been planning his murder I believe that something may have happened in the past and he was still holding a grudge or he was prejudiced. In “The Black Cat,” the narrator did not plan the murder. He committed his murder without any serious thought. I believe that when he finally saw the cat again, he got angry that the cat had ran away from him. So he killed the cat. A similar scenario would be if someone did not text you back. If you and your friend are having a good conversation and all of a sudden you have not received a text. So you are wondering what going on, but after a minute or two you go on to do better things. Then finally, when that person replies a few hours later you remember that they didn’t respond to your message, in a timely manner, so you want revenge so you don’t text them
