It comes to no surprise that women in comic books are look down upon when set up against their male counterparts. Not only are they not given enough credit for the amazing character that they are, but they also come under attack to a lot of subjects that male superheroes do not even seem to touch. From costumes, to poses, to how much screen time, there is a list of things people fire at women superheroes because it is seen as abnormal and sadly such an easy target. Another thing is that, female superheroes are always just the supporting role, nothing more than that because it would just be preposterous. Black Widow was kept to her normal human being self, with the exception that she is a very skilled assassin and most human beings are not. But, there was a sense of realism within the comic that made it more relatable then say; Wonder Woman comics. A specific panel that stood out the most was the last page of chapter three where Natasha is standing looking out of the kitchen of her said “home”. We see here that she is in a simple sports bra, nothing can be seen cleavage wise which is a shock for a woman being half naked. But, the most important part of this panel is the fact that she is battered and bruised. There are no words in this panel, which is perfectly fine because the picture speaks for itself. It not only gives of a real sense of who Black Widow is, but it also gives off a human feel, the fact that even though Black Widow is this incredible superhero, she can still be injured and bruised. We talked about in class about how Superman and Wonder Woman are basically gods, and how they rarely get injured or lose a battle. In this Black Widow comic, we see Natasha get beaten up and shot down various times, but she still gets back up and fights. I know as a person of the female gender, I do not want an invincible female superhero who recites all the feminist quotes said over the years. What I want in a female superhero is what I can see in Black Widow. Someone from a hard background but who does not want pity because of it, one who is strong and powerful, but still messes up and does not win every battle at first try. It gets boring after a while seeing superheroes after superheroes that do not even have trouble with what they are going up against. Superheroes are supposed to be the inspiration to someone, and what is much of an inspiration if they do not go through troubles themselves and come out on top. It is struggling living in a world where on one end you have a comic book company who has the right idea just needs to produce more, and then another who thinks this is what women want to here, so let’s just mass produce it and show all the feminist comments down their throats. Black Widow is a powerful inspiration to not only women but anyone who is going through something hard, she shows that even though you may be beaten and bruised along the way, you keep going and you will end up on
