The British Invasion
Imagine yourself at a huge concert, watching a newly famous British band, wearing a casual, but colorful, outfit and listening to the new styles of music. This is a new pop culture adaptation that many Americans have yet to experience that quickly became known as the “British Invasion”. The British Invasion was a time in history when the British came across the Atlantic, specifically from the UK, and their ideas influenced American culture. Throughout this time period, fashion styles, types of music, and new, British bands became popular and the way of life for all American citizens was altered immensely. During the early 1950s, country music was popular, but in the late 50s rock and roll began to take over all the way through the 60s. Many of the new sounds in America were all coming from across the Atlantic, specifically in the U.K. (“Revisit: The British Invasion: How 1960S Beat Groups Conquered America”). Rock and roll was primarily heard from British bands, the most famous band being The Beatles. Several of these popular bands were covering American songs and showcasing them as rock and roll by adding their own styles (“Music Played in the 1960s Popular Music From the 60s”). In the article “1960s: Music” the author states, “Folk music was reborn in the 1960s thanks to several young performers who wanted to rescue the musical form from what they saw as its sad decline.” As the 60s continued, this style suddenly merged into “folk-rock” as electrified instruments and a more clean and advanced type of song writing was introduced (“1960s: Music”). Playing these styles, famous bands included The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. These well known bands and new styles greatly impacted America. All in all, music had a great impact on America and new styles, songs, bands, and instruments highly affected
