In the history of music, there have been many different genres, but none of them as popular as Rock and Roll. Rock and Roll was born in the 1950’s and is still a popular style of music today. Rock and Roll was defined and popularized by many different factors, such as the musicians, the style of music, and the supporters of the music. In the 1950’s the expectations of teenagers began to change from years before. The economy was doing very well and parents were able to help their children achieve more. Parents tried to encourage their children to finish high school and go on to college. Young children began receiving allowances and had a lot more free time. They were able to form friendships and social groups. They were a generation of kids trying to have fun instead of being so serious like their parent’s generation. These kids were making more decisions on their own and rebelling against their parents. Music was one of the first subjects to become a topic of indifference between parents and their children. Rockabilly was said to be born on July 5, 1954 in Memphis, Tennessee at the Sun Records recording studio. Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, and Bill Black came to the studio. Elvis began to sing one of his songs and started jumping around and acting crazy. Bill Black picked up a bass guitar and started playing and then Scotty joined in. Sam Phillips, a record producer at Sun Records, heard them from another room and thought it was great. It had a rough southern edge to it. (History)
Another unique term that was produced from the development of Rock and Roll, was “Teen Idols.” The first and original teen idol of Rock and Roll is Pat Boone. A Teen Idol, was a singer or musician idolized by the teen population. In addition Pat Boone, some of the other teen idols of the 50’s were Paul Anka, Ricky Nelson, Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, and Fabian.
