The era of the 60s was the birth of many rock bands. Rocks bands such as Cream, The Who, and the Beatles were defining what would later become the foundation of rock music. One guitarist in particular influenced the sound of rock music and how rock should be played. That man is no other than Jimi Hendrix. Though he had a short, but eventful career he would go on to be remembered as an icon and legend as a founding father of rock. This was due to the fact that Jimi did not get into music through a church, which is how most African American artists got into music at the time. Jimi instead found inspiration in artists such as Buddy Holly and Elvis Presly. Jimi would regularly hang out at record stores in downtown Seattle discovering the old rock musicians. Jimi would go to buy his first guitar for 15 dollars. Due to Jimi being left handed he was forced to play his guitar upside down for the majority of his early days learning to play the guitar. Through his flamboyant personality on stage and incredible guitar skills Jimi was able to captivate any audience he performed to. "He was a very adorable person, very easygoing, very charming - quite innocent, really, given that he'd grown up in such a hard way,” says Norman. Hendrix would be thrown into international fame through his performances at the Atoisa Theatre in London and the Monterey international Pop Festival in California. After gaining his fame, in 1967 Jimi would do a tour of Europe and the United States and would record his first two albums "Are you Experienced” and “Axis: Bold of love”. Jimi's first album can be argued as one of the most influential rock albums of all time as it introduces psychedelic rock and new styles of playing the guitar. The album features intriguing and new explorations into music with pedal guitar,multi tracked guitar, and stereo panning. Jimi would continue to tour with his band until Woodstock 1969 where Jimi would go create a different band for the festival. During the festival Jimi performed the national anthem “The Star Spangled Banner '' which has become absolutely iconic and the most defining moment in Jimi's career.
