The Case Of Tom Robertson In To Kill A Mockingbird
Preston Geerinck Per. 1 4/25/17 Mrs. Granahan-Smith Speech Analysis Atticus Finch of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird tackled the task of defending the case of Tom Robinson who was accused of raping Mayella Ewell.
In The To Kill Mockingbird Tom Robinson was accused of rapping mayella ewell but he did not do it she tried to kiss him and first he a black man from what look like him kiss a white women so he said he just ran. That is what made he look guilty. This book is based off of true case but the Emmet Till case is based of truth because it did happen.
Tom Robinson’s Innocence In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson’s innocence is proven by Mayella’s injuries, Bob Ewell’s history, and lack of physical evidence. First of all, Mayella’s injuries are not consistent with Bob Ewell and Heck Tate’s testimonies. Bob and Heck both claim that Tom Robinson beat Mayella and her right eye was bruised.
I am reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 259. In this part of the book the trial begins and Mayella and Tom testify. Mayella lies about how Tom hurts her. Atticus knows that Mayella is lying and that Tom would not hurt a white woman. Unfortunatley, Mayella wins the trial and Tom is accused of raping Mayella.
Due to the setting of To Kill a Mockingbird, the outcome of Tom Robinson's trial is likely to be Tom ruled guilty. One piece of evidence to support a guilty verdict is the fact that Tom Robinson is black and the Ewells are white. In the 1930's, if a black man was accused of raping a white woman, a guilty verdict and the death penalty was the most common outcome. Earlier on in the story, Atticus states that they had already lost due to the color of Tom's skin.

Even though the jury found Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella Ewell, in that matter Atticus Finch, lawyer defending Tom Robinson, said that Tom Robinson was not guilty because he only has one arm and there is no way that Tom Robinson was able to hurt her while Bob Ewell is perfectly fine and
Tom was accused of raping a white woman who was Mayella Ewell, Mayella said he raped her while he was helping her with chores. She later on tells the readers that it was false allegations. The reason why she didn 't tell the truth at her first trial was because, Mayella was afraid of being embarrassed because she kissed a black male. She rather have an innocent man get charged with a crime than that. “However, Robinson was transferred from the state prison to Maycomb 's county jail on Saturday, two days before he stood trial on Monday, and Atticus had to defend him against a lynch mob”.
In the part two of the book, Tom Robinson, a black man is accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. The social norm of this time was to respect whites, and treat blacks differing. Therefore, it was a sin for Tom to disrespect Mayella. Atticus Finch, a lawyer and respected white man fought for Tom and bravely tried as his lawyer. On trial, there was evidence that Bob Ewell, Mayella’s father beat, and raped her.
To Kill a Mockingbird Is he an innocent man, or not? Did he beat up Mayella Ewell? Tom Robinson, a black man, charged of the crime of beating up a white girl. I think Tom is very innocent in this situation because a doctor wasn’t called for Mayella, the witnesses stories didn’t match, and Mayella asked Tom into her house and started the conversation between the two. This is why I think Tom Robinson is innocent.
Since the very beginning of America, racism has always been an issue that cannot be solved. Slavery was the start of it and even after it ended, society had still managed to find ways to be oppressive. The Jim Crow laws were created for states in the south, in which it strongly enforced segregation from the late 1890’s until the 1960’s. People of color were not allowed to share the same bathrooms as whites, use the same water fountain, or eat in the same restaurant. The Jim Crow laws especially gave a huge advantage to people that are white in the courtroom.
Novelist Harper Lee, in her book To Kill a Mockingbird, depicts the racism and inequalities in the town of Maycomb by having a white man, Atticus Finch, defend Tom Robinson who was black. Lee’s purpose is to show the world is unfair between races and we need to have compassion for others. She adopts a serious tone to appeal to people’s morals to do the right the thing by those seeking changes for equality. Throughout his closing argument, Atticus ensures credibility, mentioning God, and by presenting evidence that Tom Robinson is not guilty but someone in the courtroom is, to explain Mayella’s reasoning to lie.
In the novel: To Kill A Mockingbird, Mayella Ewell, a poor white woman, accused Tom Robinson, an African American, of rape. The Ewell’s are very indigent and her father, Bob Ewell, gets drunk and abuses Mayella. Since Mayella is very poor, this makes her not so powerful. In Maycomb, Alabama, A poor white woman named Mayella Ewell who lives behind the town garbage dump, accuses Tom Robinson, an African American, of rape.
In fact, he would help with chores for a woman named Mayella Ewell, who just so happens to be the person he was accused of raping. Her father, Bob Ewell, is abusive towards Mayella and is an awful person. He claims to have

On the contrary, Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are portrayed as mockingbirds, birds recognized for their innocence but also targeted.
