The case of Tracy Latimer is about a 12 year old girl who was killed by her very own father. Tracy Latimer lived in Saskatchewan, with her family. Tracy had cerebral palsy, which is a disease that cannot be cured. She was stuck in a wheelchair for the majority of her life. Tracy was not able to live the life of an ordinary person. What Tracy could do, was she enjoyed listening to music and spending time with her family. Tracy was also taking other medication like pain relievers and the treatment which resulted in toxic levels that disrupted her system. She would throw up her food and was dehydrated (Bauslaugh, 2010). Robert Latimer, who was the father killed Tracy Latimer in the month of October 24th, 1993 (Bauslaugh, 2010). Robert Latimer was tried for first degree murder, and stated that he killed his daughter out of love, to relieve her of the suffering she was going through (Bauslaugh, 2010). …show more content…

By doing that Tracy was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning. Robert Latimer was later on convicted of second degree murder which involved a life sentence and parole after ten years. After that, the judge believed that Robert Latimer was not a threat to society and reduced the sentence to one year. Nevertheless the Council of Canadians with Disabilities opposed that decision and that it didn’t follow the rights of people with disabilities (Beachell, 2013). The Supreme Court changed their decision and put it back to its original decision. The question is, did Robert Latimer really do this out of love or was it just to relieve himself of taking care of his daughter any
