The Quasi-War was a war at sea between The French and the United States. The Quasi-War took place from 1798- 1800. The cause of the Quasi-War was the U.S. denying paying any of the debts to the French. This caused serious rage between the U.S. and the French. After, the French had started seizing the American ships, trading with the British enemy. In December 1769, the French also refused to accept a new minister from the United States when he had arrived in Paris. The Americans spent two years building their army and navy to be stronger so they could defeat the French forces. The Parisians targeted the Bastille because the Bastille didn’t give women and children as many rights as the men had. Traditionally, each estate had one vote. Under this new system, with the help of a few nobles and clerics, the Third Estate had the majority vote over the other two estates. The king, however, stated that he liked the current system more. The Parisians also stormed the Bastille because of being in debt. The food prices were rising; work conditions were unjust, and cruel nobility and clergy. The King’s ways worsened these matters for the Parisians. The Bastille was holding Bourbon tyranny and prisoners in prison without charge.
