The book I chose was Code Talkers the book is about the Navajo Marines of World War Two. The writer of my book, Joseph Bruchac writes books relating to indigenous people of America, He also focuses on Anglo-americans and Natives. The reason i chose this book is because it is a fictional book but is based on Facts. So when you read the book your learning information but it’s not boring you because it’s has that fictional story to get you interested in the book.
The book that I chose to read was all about the hidden secrets that the southern people keep. These secrets helped their southern town stay alive while also preserving the history. This book made me think of the south in a different way and it also made me realize that there is more than what meets the eye, especially in a small town. The book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, by John Berendt, sparked my interest because of my deep love for the south, the mystery of the murder, and the description of the unique people found in Savannah Georgia.
Night, by Eli Wiesel and Between Shades of Gray, by Ruta Sepetys takes the reader through a journey that they will end up remembering for the rest of their lives. The book Night is written by a teenage boy that
To start, The Cay is a historical fiction novel written by Theodore Taylor in in1969. It describes the hardships and lessons of a young boy named Phillip Enright, who is stranded on an island with a man named Timothy for about 3 months. Over the course of the story, Phillip is faced with many hardships, one of them becoming blind as he is on a raft with Timothy and a cat named Stew. He also has to deal with Timothy’s death, which later leads to a happy ending as Phillip is rescued after 3 months, and having three operations to get rid of his blindness. Overall, there are so many conflicts in The Cay, but there are three that are central to the novel.
When the boys get stranded on this island they must take care of themselves and try to get rescued. As the boys climb this mountain to get home they face new challenges which resulted them to descend into savagery. With these new challenges of killing the pig for the first time, them breaking the conch, and deaths of Simon and Piggy they to descend into savagery causing them to lose their innocence. After the boys crash landed on the island it was only a matter of time before the boys descend into savagery because lack of leadership, need for survival and loss of innocence. Their first goal on the island was to have fun and get rescued but throughout their stay, they get further away from that.
My current favorite book is Faking Normal by Courtney Stevens. I personally love it because I can relate to her life struggles personally, and have been in her shoes more than once. I have read the book in one day, six hours to be exact. It is honestly the greatest book I have ever read, and would recommend it to anyone. Though there is some touchy subjects and moments in the book, I would still recommend it.
The first setting of the book, The Cay, is Willemstad, the home of Philip, the protagonist of the novel. This location is important because it sets the plot in motion when u-boats start torpedoing tankers off of Curacao. As a result, Phillip 's mom gets scared, and wants to leave the island, ultimately resulting him finding himself on a raft with Timothy. The submarines are attacking the oil refineries on Aruba, the island west of Curaçao and some small oil tankers.
It felt like I might as well be on the island alone, again. The spirit bear doesn’t show again. After a week passes Peter comes running into the cabin where I was doing my school work and says, “There is a boat.” We run outside and look out across the bay. In the distance there is a boat in the distance.
The book I chose to read was “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls. “The Glass Castle” was memorable because it gave me an idea about the diversity of each person. The story was told through the perspective of a young girl who does not understand right from wrong because she believes what her father tells her. I think this book is popular because it expressed ideas that are typically thought of as wrong or ideas that many turn away from. The author included outstanding imagery that puts the reader into the shoes of the main character.
In the beginning of the book there is the fire that burns half of the island
All of the boys life have fallen apart, and lives have been taken. The school boys, are not school boys anymore. The schoolboys have lost their innocence on the island. Many lives have been taken, the mama pig, Piggy, Simon, and almost Ralph.
From their knowledge, there were no adults that survived this crash, but there were other boys on the island that they have yet to meet. By coincidence, they found this perfect conch shell in a pond nearby, and they summoned up their first meeting. After
This boy was only dreading his trip to his new private school 30,000 feet in the air before blacking out and finding himself stranded and alone in a deserted island. But within the short time span of five weeks, he’s innocence was taken from him. I am lucky to interview Ralph Bradshaw, age 12, after weeks of silence, of his deadly, horrifying experience in the stranded island he would call “Hell” itself. Many know the tale of the 47 boys mysteriously disappearing and found wild-like, but Ralph knows there was more to it. After befriending Stanley and Simon, (seen in Pg. 2) he was appointed leader by majority vote.
The two are stuck on the island until they are killed
When most people describe islands they are usually focused on the beautiful beaches. Much like with adulthood kids only see the “beaches”. In reality there is a lot more that goes on behind the pretty beaches. The rest of the island is scary and dark. Once the boy have to venture past the beaches they realize how scary the island (adulthood) really is.
