William "Willy" Russell is a British playwright, lyricist and musician, who wrote a grievous play ‘Blood Brothers’, in 1983 set in Liverpool. Russell uses a strong yet effective literary convention, dramatic irony as the base, and builds up throughout the play. The play follows with two twins separated at birth due to social class matters, demonstrating a set of events that lead to a heartbreaking conclusion. This essay will examine Russell’s portrayal of Linda, along with scenes Russell decides to embed her in, and occasionally conveys a certain message to the audience. Russell presents Linda as an optimistic yet brave lady who at the same time is forced by her circumstances. Linda came from a poor background just like Mickey, so they got along rather well. Russell expresses Linda as a kind- hearted and sociable character by signifying her aptitude to support her friends. Linda is slightly courageous and mirthful as she becomes part of Mickey and Edward’s group, playing along, often leading the way. “Let’s throw some stones through them windows”. Russell paints Linda as the one that takes charge. Russell also indicates this when Linda plays a trick on a policeman so that the three of them could run
