In the story “The Chrysanthemums” by John Steinbeck, the third person objective helps communicate the message, loneliness can lead to dissatisfaction with life. John Steinbeck wrote the short story in third person objective to give the readers an unprejudiced outlook on the story. By using this, the narrator enables the reader to conclude their own thoughts. The third person objective states “Her eyes sharpened. "Maybe I could do it, too. I've a gift with things, all right.” (Steinbeck 15) The readers can conclude that this was told in third person objective, and that Elisa doesn’t want to be seen as any other woman.
