Facts: Back in the Middle Ages, there was a Code of Chivalry. It was thought to be developed during the 11th or 12th Century. This code was a moral system that went from the concepts of combat to the concepts of a Chivalrous conduct. These qualities were idealized by the knights of the Middle Ages, and followed by these knights. These qualities included bravery, courtesy, honor, and many others. These knights were also expected to temper the aggressive side of a knight. This Code of Chivalry was the honor code for these Medieval knights, and was an important part of society. During their knighthood, these knights would make certain promises. Most of these promises were related to chivalry. These promises, or otherwise known as vows, were documented in “the Songs of Roland” during the reign of William the Conqueror. This document describes the 8th Century knights. It talks about the battles fought by Emperor Charlemagne. Ever since then, the code has been described as Charlemagne’s Code of Chivalry.
