The Color Purple by Alice Walker tells an amazing story about two girls and their struggles in life. Celie is a fourteen year old black girl, who also happens to be uneducated. She's writing letters to god after her father says “You better not never tell nobody but god. It’d kill your mammy.” (Page 1) Celia father raped and beat her, after she became pregnant with Adam and Olivia, Alphonso her father gives them away. She was then forced to marry Mr._____’s who beat her and treated her like dirt. Celie sister Nettie came to live with her, in order to get away from Alphonso. It wasn't long before Nettie was kicked out with no place to go. Before she left, she told Celie that the only thing that could keep her away was death.
