The Compact Guide To World Religions is a collection of views which touch base on various ideologies and help to give readers a bird’s eye view into the many religious ethos [mindsets] throughout the ages. The introductory chapter illustrates the “spectrum of religions and religious beliefs.” Dean C. Halverson (“Halverson”) writes about what separates Christianity from other beliefs and provides general principles of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I am immediately reminded of a song that was popular when I was young. The tune sung by the Fifth Dimension called “Aquarius” portrayed “The Age of Aquarius” as a world of harmony, trust, and sympathy. It speaks of the “mind’s true liberations;” truly a place of utopia. The New Age movement is like a spiritual buffet allowing people to pick and choose what they want according to how they are feeling at the time. A compilation of many religious practices, it is appealing to those who are “spiritual.” The characterization to identify the new age movement is “monism and pantheism.” Monism is the idea that God is One and that there is no distinction between God, “persons, good and evil” [163]. Pantheism is the revelation that god is in everything including the chair that I am currently sitting in as I type this paper. Within the New Age Movement, there are spirit guides, Disembodied spirts, Ascended Masters and angels to assist in the road to the ultimate goal of “Oneness.” Followers of new age believe that the human race suffers due to ignorance of their true nature. There are many, many nuances to the New Age Movement as it accepts such perspectives as meditation, UFOs, alien representation and varying degrees of reincarnation. And the list goes on.
