The indigenous religions studied in this chapter do not have a written text that is worshipped, and they use oral tradition to pass down their beliefs through generations (Brodd 21).
The ancestors shaped the landscape of the world during the period of dreaming. It is during this time that the ancestors began to divide humans into certain tribes and villages. They also gave each tribe their own language to ensure that the division remained (Brodd 23).

The aztecs called for his return during the spanish invasion of Mesoamerica (Brodd 39).
The sun played a huge part in the aztecs’ lives. They even organized a calendar around it. They believed that they were living during the fifth sun. the past four had exploded and died, and they believed the fifth would too (Brodd 37).
The spiritual world was a real thing for the Aztecs, they even believed it existed in the same cosmos, although it was separate from the real world we live in. the spiritual world was pointed in a different way from the axis mundi(Brodd 38).
The value of human life was high amongst the Aztecs. They went as far as to sacrifice humans as gifts to the gods. This high value is rooted in the belief that each human had their own axis mundi within them. (Brodd 37).
The learning and understanding of different languages and the comprehension of riddles are among the powers given to the Aztec knowers of things (Brodd 38).
