Hunters kill 200 million animals annually, while crippling and orphaning millions more. Conversely, those animals can be eaten, and thus keep the population of certain animals in check. Hunting is a world-wide controversy that thrusts people into an emotional debate. Hunting has its skeptics and supporters and people seem to take the side of either saving the innocent, defenseless animals, fish, or taking the side of protecting the environment from overpopulation of animals making their way into neighborhoods and roads. Hunting of animals and fish have been part of existence since the beginning of time as we know it. During the prehistoric age, hunting played an important role for human survival (IDA USA). Personally hunting for food has lessened in most cultures, and because of this, hunting, or the following and killing of innocent, living creatures, is enjoyed primarily for sport and entertainment in these same places (IDA USA). Hunting, a generally bonding tradition enjoyed with family and friends a few times a year, and one of the methods to control the animal population, can also be a dangerous sport to those who are not cautious and do not know how to handle guns. No matter if one is a supporter or a skeptic of hunting, it is not hard to find valid reasons for each side, which makes it difficult to decide, without debate, whether hunting should be allowed in society.
