Animal Farm by George Orwell, a novella reflecting the Russian Revolution Opening up a novella about a dystopian society ruled by animals that are made to reflect people in the real world shows new perspectives on equal rights. This read shows the corruption of power by the pigs. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were the owners of Animal Farm. Mr. Jones ended up being in a "lawsuit," and after that accident, the animals rebelled against him and kicked him out. All the animals were so static and happy that they had to learn to take care of themselves. The pigs then stepped up, but especially Snowball (Leon Trotsky) and Napoleon (Joseph Stalin) became superior. Snowball showed many attributes of being a good leader. He was a good speaker, listener, and was …show more content…
The animals on the farm treat him like he is superior and better than Napoleon. He has all the skills of a leader; he has the best writing skills, and he thinks he can make any problem go away. Communication makes a great leader, and Napoleon lacks that. Snowball is most respected by the other animals, and this quote shows that "it’s half past six and we have a long day ahead of us. Today we begin the hay harvest." Snowball said. (pg: 42)
The animals on the farm wanted Snowball to lead the farm because it seemed like he was the only one who knew what he was doing and would lead the hay harvest better than Napoleon. Snowball, the most intelligent of all, had the honor of painting the seven Commandments on the wall. " Napoleon sent for a post of black and white paint and led the way down to the five-barred gate that gave way to the main road. Then Snowball took a brush between the two knuckles of his trotter and painted Animal Farm." (pg: 42)
Reading these two quotes shows how much the other animals trust and depend on Snowball. They see he has characteristics and is the smartest, so they cherish that. After all, he was in charge of the milk when the rest of the farm went to harvest hay. Napoleon was also quite good at guiding the other animals to reach their goals and supporting the farm. The animals have enough trust in Napoleon to leave him with harder jobs that no one else gets to experience. However, these aren't valid enough characteristics that a leader should have. Napoleon would take what he wanted, but it was never to support the farm. Snowball devoted himself to helping the animals intellectually and physically. Even though Napoleon worked behind the scenes, without Snowball's supportiveness on the farm, the animals wouldn’t be stable. Napoleon works behind the scenes but doesn’t always do it right. "So the animals trooped down to the hay harvest with Snowball, and when they came back in the evening, it was noticed that the milk had disappeared." (pg: 44) Napoleon was in charge of the barrels of milk when Snowball took the rest of the animals out to harvest hay. When the rest of the farm got back, the milk was gone. Napoleon had one job, and without every animal doing their responsibilities, their farm doesn’t work smoothly. All the animals would be so happy if Snowball got the label as their leader and if Napoleon would do his job effectively. Therefore, Snowball would be a better
