The individualism students are supposed to be taught is at the expense of the over-reliance on adjunct faculty who are forced into strict molds by administrators. Adjunct faculty members are increasingly pointing out the inequities of the way they are treated even as the recession leads some colleges to rely on them more and more. Lack of communication, academic freedom and forced standardized learning rather than critical thinking are exposing students’ lack of individualism. If adjuncts don't have offices and are not paid for time outside of class the result is less one-on-one time with students. Although working conditions vary across the academy and even within a single institution, many faculty part-timers are not permitted to contribute
