The County Queen: A Short Story

It all started out when I was around nine years old, going to the annual small town community parades and watching the beautiful, dressed up girls smiling and waving to the crowds of people lined up on the sidewalks. The little kids, including myself, hollered and clapped for them as they went by. I envied them and from there on I was infatuated with the idea of being a part of the “pretty princesses” that waved to the crowds on holidays. As if that was the only concept of being on the court. I had always loved the idea of being a princess; I mean what girl doesn’t? So seeing the County Queen’s Court girls looking perfect and dolled up at each parade, I began to desire a role of being on the court as time went on. Then, my freshman year of high school, one of my close friends, encouraged me to run for a spot on the Kerr County Queen’s Court. I saw the beauty in not just people I know, but people I’ve never met before. And through every person I met, I learned valuable life lessons. I learned that a kind heart will take you far, and that perseverance will always keep you on the right path. So with those reminders to keep a kind heart and perseverance, I began thinking of what I am going to need perseverance for? What am I going to be trying to accomplish in the years to come? What path am I going to take? And after a few long hours of contemplating these hard to grasp questions, I finally came to the conclusion that whatever I choose to be, I will be constantly improving and successful at it.This prize that I had been honor with gave me guidance on what I want to accomplish in my life; which is helping and supporting others in their life.
