Fiji began as a land of the mixed descendants of Polynesian and Melanesian, and was true to their ethnic background. Fiji was already found by a Dutch explorer but Europeans came and took actions into colonizing Fiji and changing their way of life. After years under the reign of Britain, Fiji began to take their independence back and revert to their natural ways and breaking free from Britain. John Starhurst labored in Fiji for three years and never made a profit. Starhurst was very religious, which ties into the way Fijians really were back then, he was a missionary who wanted to carry the gospel from one coast to another. As we must remember, john was a known for his religion, humbleness and being practical, according to his religion. Which was the opposite of how the man thought. He tried to explain to the man that God has created the land they live in and it took six days and as to why this tooth should be cherished, because of the works of God.
