Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, is a well-known novel but most notably a social drama. The Crucible reenacts the “Salem Witch-Hunts” that occurred in Massachusetts in the late 1600s. In summary, the story is about a man know as Minister Parris discovering a group of girls including his own daughter Betty, niece Abigail, and slave Tituba dancing in the middle of the forest. Upon being shocked, Betty falls ill and is unable to wake the next day. The town then begins the rumor of witchcraft. Abigail ultimately denies any involvement in the devilish activities and claims her innocence. Fingers start to get pointed and in the end nineteen members of the community are arrested and hung for suspicions of witchcraft. The Crucible is a historical piece
