The longest marriage recorded and known was 86 years and 290 days while the average marriage is around 7 years. In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Hadden the parents of 15-year-old Christopher Boone split up, one abandons their previous relationship ,which according to the web, was less than the average marriage, while the other sticks with Christopher. Ed Boone, his father, should be the rightful parent to take custody of him as he is the parent who knows how to take care of him, be stable and sturdy in relations, emotional health and income .

There is a time when Christopher got a cut on his face his father helps him, “He made me wash the cut on my cheek with Dettol to make sure that it wasn’t infected, then he got me to put a plaster on it so it didn't bleed” (85). Before this was said, Ed had a bit of a temper, but looking at this quote, it clearly conveys that his intentions were to not let his own emotions overwhelm him, and to rather help his son. Ed is also shown to have a job throughout the whole entire book, with him leaving the house, coming back in the evening or afternoon. While on the other hand Judy, Christopher’s mother, doesn't have a stable source of income having to jump around to different jobs and isn’t happy with the current job either. Since she can’t manage her financial life, how can she manage herself and manage her son and at the same time pay all the expenses and bills. Not only that, but Judy is shown throughout the book as well to have a short temper and to get emotional easily. Contributing to that idea is that towards the end of the book it is said that Christopher's mother, Judy is also taking prescribed medication to help her well-being “but then everything was Ok because Mother got a job on the till in a garden center and the doctor gave her pills to take every morning to stop her from feeling sad, except that sometimes the made her dizzy, and she fell over if she stood up too …show more content…

She herself admits that she isn’t the best mother “‘I was not a very good mother’” (106). Judy blatantly states that, and therefore self admits that in the past when she was involved in Christopher's life, she was not a good mother according to parental standards. The first real and serious relationship was probably with her husband Ed, but later felt that she had a deeper connection with one of their neighbors. In which that way indefinitely ended that marriage, and although it seemed to be going all sunshine and daisies with Mr. Shears, it didn’t turn out to be. Not only did the first relationship get messed up with her husband, but it messed up her relationship with her son. Judy has been continually writing letters to Christopher, and in the first one that he finds, she writes, “You haven’t written to me yet, so I know that you’re probably still angry with me.
