Mark Haddon’s ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ explores many important aspects of society and growing up. The novel is told through the perspective of Christopher Boone a fifteen year old boy who lives in a small English town of Swindon as he deals with the trials and triumphs of living with Asperger’s. The novel is told through the first hand narration of Christopher as Haddon explores his understanding of Asperger’s syndrome through doing so Haddon gives insight into life with Asperger’s and creates a stimulating perspective of the world. Within this extract Haddon explores the struggles of growing up and the vital importance of trust to Christopher. One of the primary intentions of the novel is to teach the audience to understand and empathise with Christopher’s perspective. Haddon’s use of the universal issue of the struggles of growing up is used to eliminate some of the social stigma that surrounds Asperger’s. Christopher chose to put his chapters in prime numbers as he just simply likes prime numbers. In chapter 19, page 14, Christopher explains why he likes prime numbers and how you can work out how to find them. On page 15, Christopher states, “I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them.” This illustrates to the reader that Christopher likes to think logically and
