The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is a fictional murder mystery novel, with many dramatic elements, written by Mark Haddon. It is likely intended mainly teenagers, judging by the style of writing, but the serious subjects make it captivating for anyone older as well. This edition was published in 2004 in Great Britain. The book begins with the protagonist Christopher finding his neighbour, Mrs Shears’ dog dead on her lawn with a garden fork sticking out of it. He decides to set out on an adventure to find out who murdered Mrs Shears’ dog, writing a mystery novel about all that occurs. Christopher collects information by talking to neighbours, drawing and using mathematics and logic, whilst his father tries his best to not let Christopher get in a mess. He is skilled at mathematics, likes lists, prime numbers and patterns. He does definitely not like brown, yellow, being touched and metaphors. His diagnosis makes his life very different, yet straight-forward, which makes life much more complicated when he sets out on this life-changing journey to find out who murdered his neighbour’s dog. He gets put into situations he wouldn’t ever end up in otherwise, and is unsure how to act. He lives in Swindon, which is where most of the story is set. Swindon is small town, reflective of his personality and simple life. The turbulent and noisy London serves to reflect Christopher’s feelings later in the story.
