The daily mantra school announcement extolling the virtues and importance of Aboriginals is essential to understanding Canada’s history. Through repetitive hearings our mind becomes washed over with guilt, thus making one feel the need to correct the mistakes made by previous generations. The daily announcement addresses the issues Aboriginals face or faced in society. Addressing the issues Aboriginals face today allows society to correct their mistakes and move towards a better society. The daily school announcement helps one understand Canada’s history through a psychological, sociological and anthropological viewpoint. Repetitive hearings makes one subconsciously acknowledge the mistakes made towards Aboriginals. Repetition is an effective method to make one remember something and the daily announcement is no exception to the method of repetition. Along with the daily announcement, students have learnt about the indigenous people of Canada since grade six. The constant reminder of mistakes made by the previous generations toward the Aboriginals encourages the current generation to correct the mistakes made previously. Society in the 1900s did not acknowledge issues faced by minority groups and by taking a step forward and acknowledging their issues society has become better and more multicultural. For example, blacks previously were neglected in society and by acknowledging our mistakes towards blacks society became better and more multicultural. Comparing the situation blacks and Aboriginals faced not too much has changed. Both blacks and Aboriginals were neglected and discriminated against, but eventually people began to acknowledge their issues and take action against their issues.
