As it is well known, pictures have a lot of details, but what you may not consider, is that a picture can never have all the details. First impressions play a large role in the decisions made a on a daily base. The single story is a single depiction of a subject. The single story is dangerous as it can lead to a wrong interpretation. A Belief should not be formed on the premise of a single story as it can lead to misguided judgment and consequences that are unbefitting of the subject.

For apparent reasons, one must question the validity of a source. If one did not question sources, the truth would never come close to being revealed. The single story is dangerous because it presents only one source of information which is unreliable. Relying on the single story is dangerous because it leads to judgment and the formation of stereotypes. In "The Danger of a Single Story", Adichie informs the audience of the effects that the single story has had on the world's perception of Africa. Adichie reports, "'one must admire the imagination of John Lok... what is important about his writing is that it represents the beginning of a tradition of telling African stories in the West: A tradition of Sub-Saharan Africa as a place of negatives, of difference, of darkness, of people who... are 'half devil, half child.'" From this one man, John Lok, has sprouted immense influence for years to come of what Africa will ultimately be for a large proportion. Africans are monsters, strange hybrids that push the boundary of imagination all because of John Lok's testimony. A tradition is the pinnacle result of an established and widespread belief.
