In the movie The Dark Knight (2008), the District Attorney Harvey Dent, had 2 faces. One was good, one was evil. But, when we set him side by side to Christopher Columbus, we cannot deduce any good side of him. Christopher Columbus, the Italian explorer, who was sponsored by the Spanish Kingdom, was guilty of multitudinous charges that include mass genocide, initiating transatlantic slavery, harsh treatment of workers and torture. The first time Columbus set foot on the New World, he encountered a native population called the Arawak. As they were very hardworking, friendly and amiable, they, without hesitation traded supplies, jewelry and food, some of which, were transported through the Columbian Exchange to the Old World. This cruel method was set up by Columbus for the reason that at the beginning, the Arawaks weren’t that disposed to reveal to him where the gold was situated at. Consequently, he organized an arrangement which functioned like the following; All Arawaks over the age of 14, provided that they desired to keep their limbs or even their lives, had to collect a large “hawk’s bell” of gold powder or 11 kilograms of cotton within the limits of 3 months. Columbus didn’t just oppress and torture people, he also was quite fascinated by the sexual outlook of slavery. By assessing a letter written by Michele de Cuneo, “Columbus was rewarding his lieutenants with women to rape.” Unshockingly, being the vile and disgusting man he was, Columbus even wrote casually in his log, "A hundred castellanoes are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand."
