Bessie Head’s “The Deep River: A story of Ancient Tribal Migration” is a short story written about how the Talaote tribe was divided into two groups. The point of view is third-person narration full omniscient. In the story, everything is happening around Sebembele, the chief of the Talaote tribe. The narrator also informs the reader about Sebembele’s feelings, evident with the statement “It was not hatred he felt but peace at last”(1103).
