The Devil Within Why is the battle of right and wrong so difficult to figure out? Lord of The Flies demonstrates many themes about human nature, but ultimately believes that everyone has the constant battle of right and wrong and how sick and twisted humans can be. The author William Golding used many things to portray his theme. He used noble and corrupt leaders to show characters making the right and wrong decisions. He also used many conflicts to show the strategies of how at first the boys were so civilized then the downfall into savages. Lastly Golding uses many symbols that again shows the lose of order. They want to kill the beast that they think is a real thing. "The beast teeth , said Ralph, and big black eyes" ( Golding 124) They thing the beast is a big bad animal of some sort. When the beast is really within them. Lastly, Golding uses many symbols to show different things from, civilization to evil and fear. The conch shell symbolizes civilization and order.
