During the 1880’s, before World War II, the French occupied Indochina for its overseas empire. However, during the war France lost Vietnam to the Japanese invasion, a communist country, forcing the US to take action in Vietnam and grant them their freedom from the Japanese. At the end of the war a new conflict arose when France wanted to take back Vietnam as their land overseas again. During this time President Truman had to make a decision to either help France conquer this territory again, or help Vietnam get its independence. Yet, fear of the Domino Theory happening to Vietnam, since the soviets controlled most of the countries there, they decided to help france by sending $160 million dollar to support their war. Also as a result of the Vietnam War, Vietnam had become a communist nation after the war, which was the most effective cause of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was an immediate effect of the First Indochina War for which France declared for Vietnam as a colony. The president 's also had a huge responsibility in the effects/conflicts in the war, since they were the ones to make many decisions. The following six presidents were involved in the effects of the Vietnam War: Harry S. Truman, Dwight W. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Richard M. Nixon, and last but not least it was president Gerald R. Ford. Additionally, the anti war movement also had an effect in the Vietnam War, was that the anti war people were in no good terms, they were enemies, and Nixon was in great need of having information about the anti war people, so that caused Nixon into the Watergate Scandal.
