The dwarves discover something that they didn’t think would happen when they first started onto their adventure, they have relied on Bilbo more than once to get them out of a sticky situation. The band of dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf travel there to reclaim their lost treasure because there is a whole spew of wealth guarded by a greedy dragon, Smaug.
Music comes in many forms. Since the beginning of time, there have been many ways music has been shown. The Sumerian Hymn to Creation was from before 800 B.C.; this was the earliest song known today. (Koopman, John. " Antiquity to 1590".)
In the novel The Hobbit the 12 dwarves and Bilbo have a different perspective. when it comes to the elves of rivendell, The elves have a negative impression on the dwarves, but a positive one for Bilbo. But The elven lord, Elrond, has an opinion about the dwarves expedition to the lonely mountain. In rivendell there are elves that sing dance and fight.
The dwarves would be good company on any person’s journey because they know what type of perseverance is needed to get through hard times. (Mirriam Webster Defines perseverance as) “The quality that allows someone to continue trying to do even though it is difficult.” Perseverance is a quality
The songs sung throughout “the Hobbit” help develop characterization. In the elves song, it has a happy and energetic characterization and they are very put together. In the song it states, “The bannocks are backing! O! tril-lil-lil-lolly, the valley is jolly, ha! ha!”. This quote from “the Hobbit” shows the elves happy and energetic state in the song.
Bilbo is not feeling the same way as the dwarves traveling with him, Elrond is having mixed thoughts about this journey and the people on the journey, The elves have values that they feel are important. The dwarves do not like the elves because they made fun of them. For example,¨Don´t dip our beard
Music can bring the brightest of joys that keeps us moving through our dull and boring lives. An example of this joy is Ishmael Beah’s life as a boy soldier in his book A Long Way Gone. As he tells you his story, he tells of his dance group with his friends, the times he heard music in the middle of war, and how music saved him from the madness that brewed within him. Music has the unique ability to create peace in a person’s life despite the difficulties surrounding them, and to bring a constant reminder of who they are as a person.
Picture this, you made the same choice as Bilbo. You risked your life, your sense of comfort, to challenge a dangerous dragon. A dragon, that destroyed an army of dwarves and a town. It also took their gold and treasure. Taking in this in mind, would you take this risk?
Tolkien illustrated the image of hobbits by stating, “They are inclined to fat in the stomach, they dress in bright colors (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads; have long clever brown fingers, good- natured faces, and deep fruity laughs.” (Tolkien 4).
Of course, not all of them could be featured, as The Hobbit is perhaps not your first thought of being a musical. But in other scenes where the songs are not featured, the same kind of setting is shown and related through diegetic sound. The squeals and growls from the goblins are used to relate to the “It sounded truly terrifying. The walls echoed the clap, snap! And crush, smash!
Music plays a major role in the development of the different magical beings. In The Hobbit the dwarves, elves , and goblins have there own ways to sing there songs. The dwarves’ song was sad,the elves’ song their song with curiosity , the goblin’s song was exquisitely made about torture. The dwarves had an sad mood in their song. In recent months, a series of undercover sting videos have been released by the anti-abortion group, Center for Medical Progress. In these videos, the two parties discuss the sales and harvesting of fetal tissue and organs after performing abortions. In the series of videos, senior director Deborah Nucatola and a Planned Parenthood executive were taped discussing the process for aborting fetuses, preserving organs (liver, heart, lungs, head), and joking about payment for fetal tissue in the form of a Lamborghini.
While music may sometimes play the role of brightening a mood or bringing people together, the role it plays in film is to let the audience know how they are supposed to feel. Music has a very dramatic effect on the way one watches and perceives movies, and many people believe we experience a film only through our eyes; however, we are also experiencing just as much of the film through our ears. Jaws, Star Wars, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, and Out of Africa are the some of the most glorified movies for music and would be unimaginable without their iconic scores (MacAulay). Without the use of music in film and especially horror films, the audience would not know what emotion they are supposed to be experiencing during a certain scene. Music
The song describes most of what is going on in the story. For example, “We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said I’ll love her till I die.” These two lines in the stanza are very descriptive. Using detailed lines makes a better understanding for the audience. It makes the song become more realistic.
