“Achoo!” Fumes flowed through the air as a young man coughed. It was the year 1900, and 26% of boys ages 10-15 were already in the workforce. The United States faced many problems like this one in the early 1900’s. From sanitation, to wildlife, to labor and factories, the states were struggling.
The “Roaring” 20s In the early 1920s, people were celebrating. World War I ended in November of 1918, and many people were overjoyed. About 4.7 million American men served in the military, and the United States suffered a total of 436,516 casualties, with 116,516 dead. World War I is often referred to as “The Great War” and “The War to end all Wars”.
The Roaring 20s brought a lot of daily excitement and change as United States saw new developments in industry. The stock market was high and all seemed well. America was changing drastically in a good way but little did they know one event would change millions of lives for the worse. While everything seemed amazing to the unknowing eye, the change in economy, government, and social life had a lot of bad moments.
What do intelligence tests, advertising circulars, and accounts of people impacted by the Great Depression have in common? They represent some of the main concerns in the United States during the 1920s though the late 1930s. The Roaring 20s was concerned mostly with consumerism and immigration issues, while the major question in the 1930s was how to survive the Great Depression. These sources paint a picture of some of the underlying issues that the United States dealt with when it went from a booming consumer nation teeming with immigrants to a nation with over 20% of its people unemployed.
The politicians of the 1800 's were a whole new breed of men because a centralized government was no longer a threat as the previous generation had experienced (Schultz, Mays, Winfree, 2010). The Democratic-Republican Party, led by Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun, now favored policies that would encourage economic growth other than the agricultural policies of the Jefferson era. The party now wanted to recreate the national banking system, make a national internal improvement, and to raise tariffs on imported goods. The Second National Bank was established in 1816 with the support of Calhoun, the southern and the western congressmen. While northern representatives, New England Federalists, opposed the bank, a reversal of party beliefs.
The Roaring Twenties led to social, political, and economic changes in the United States. The Twenties were one of the most influential time periods of the 1900’s. In the 1920’s America was battling a cultural war between traditional fundamentalists and liberal-minded urbanites. America was faced with a choice: stick with what they have always known or create a new era of change. There are several significant events that highlighted the split between the “two Americas” including Prohibition, the rise of the Ku Klux Klan, evolution and the Scopes “Monkey” trial, mass consumerism, and changing attitudes about gender roles, sex, and Women’s rights.
A Muslin friend and I were discussing the fear that some Americans feel when they encounter him. He was born in America and considers himself a good citizen. I have known him for years. After 9-11 he was not allowed to play outside when we were kids. His parents were afraid that he would be bullied or even assaulted because of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia, and the crashed airplane in Pennsylvania.

The 1920’s and the 1930’s were two completely different life styles for everybody. Before going into great detail I would describe the 1920’s as the time of money, luxury, and extravagant parties. The 1930’s on the other hand were entirely different, it consisted of bankruptcy, jobless, starved, and sadness. The 1920’s opened doors for the lives of the African American people in Harlem.

America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.
The 1920s in America, also known as the Roaring Twenties, was a time of political, social, economic, technological, and cultural developments. These developments created new changes and helped shape the ways of life of the American people. Women played a significant example in social changes. From improvements in the education system, to minor developments such as the changes in attire. Another major development was economic production.
It is commonly known throughout human history that the energy used is burned from coal which creates biomass. During the Industrial Revolution, coal was an essential need to everyone, hence the discovery of oil as a substitute. Yet, the mass formation from the unearthing of oil causes more damage than benefits for the planet. Humanity had never seen a more compatible source in which came a higher demand for oil. As the public has urged to generate more oil, scientists theorized that fossil fuels will eventually run out, making way for a renewable energy route in the future (Mason).
