The Enlightenment, an intellectual movement in 18th century Europe, was stimulated by the scientific revolution. With the science, musicians learned how to change pitch of the instruments especially for string instruments and printing press which enable widespread of printed music and books about music. Artwork was no longer just depictions of holy topics but moved to the environment and philosophy. Musicians also studied the Greek drama and tried to create music that would go with the words of their stories. This was the beginning of opera, where music and theater are combined to perform in the public. Because of the fact the Enlightenment was an intellectual movement among the upper and middle class elites, the audience had changed as well
