The Era of Enlightenment was a cultural movement in Europe that favored reason in place of belief. It challenged the accepted views of the time which, in turn, endangered the power of absolute rulers and their system of government. This era influenced a majority of the European population, however, the monarchs of the time did not exemplify those same ideals. Catherine II of Russia’s views on serfs and peasants are a great example of a ruler defying the enlightenment movement. In her “Decree on Serfs” she states that “serfs and peasants...owe their landlords proper submission and absolute obedience in all matters” , essentially saying that serfs of the time should be completely obedient to their masters (Doc. 6).
The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck's award winning book based on the lives of people during the, Great Depression, The Grapes of Wrath, has experienced a lot of criticism since its release in 1939. From the time it was published all the way up until present times, some people have found much at fault in this realist book, while other people recognize that their are many true parts of Steinbeck's book. Many people consider this book to be Steinbeck's greatest piece of work, while the overall response to it was good, there was some negative outlooks on a few aspects of the books. As the elections get closer, Nevada's liberal candidate's ads are getting more and more agressive(attacking). In order to understand the mechanics of the campaign materials, I will use PBS " The savvy Voter: dissect an ad" structure. At first, the ad begins by showing a live prop( a senior) in conditions of dissadvantage- the same is being scamed over the phone( which is something quite viral amongst senior conversation talks recently). The lighting is a bit shaded and the individual is presented as voulnerable. At the background we can see how a "trickster" type of music is being played, whilst the senior is represented as a target, using a video-editing technique.

The Enlightenment Period consisted of philosophers that advocated for political, social, and economic changes. The enlightenment thinkers motivated the revolutions of the 18 and 19th century by promoting Equal rights of Man and by preaching that governments should be managed by branches instead of a monarch. One of the most influential revolutions was the American revolution whereas the American colonists were fed up with the British and declared independence from them.
The D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944, was one of the most significant events in World War II. Codenamed “Operation Overlord", the invasion was a coordinated effort between Allied forces to liberate German-occupied France and ultimately bring an end to the war in Europe. D-Day was known as the largest assault ever carried out. The success of the invasion relied heavily on technological advancements that enabled the Allies to overcome the formidable German defenses, such as amphibious tanks, water-landing crafts, and artillery and air raids. Amphibious tanks were one of the most critical technological advancements that played a significant role in the D-Day invasion.
The American Revolution was between the Americans and England’s King, and the French Revolution was between the French’s king ad the third estate. The Declaration of Independence was created, because the Americans thought that all men should have the same rights and the King of England has done the opposite of what they wanted. The Declaration of the Rights of Man was created, because the French third estate wasn’t being treated like the 1st and 2nd estate and they wanted have rights that was justified. These Revolutions started from Enlightenment ideas. Enlightenment ideas were ideas that would help with individualism.
The Enlightenment gave people the chance to question and to search for the truth, instead of being told to accept and believe others beliefs and ideologies.
The Enlightenment was a period during the eighteenth century that brought new attitudes toward reform, faith, and reason in the governments of Europe. The Enlightenment had a massive effect on the Western Civilization. The Enlightenment brought new ideas about government that inspired the Founding Fathers and the French revolutionaries. The Enlightenment also gave birth to the ideas of free trade and it also shifted economic reliance from agriculture to industrial products. This transformation led to beginning of the globalization of Europe.
Cafes, intellectual salons, public theaters, exchanges of correspondence, newspaper, and the publishing of books were all key elements that allowed for enlightenment to flourish all over Europe. The act of enlightenment would allow for people to finally be able to speak their minds without worrying about the religious and political authorities. The people would finally have the right to freedom of speech in Europe. The enlightenment wasn’t all good for Europe. It caused civil and religious wars, dynastic conflicts, and famine.
The enlightenment was an important aspect in achieving every angle of the colonial America, such as the politics, religion and the social economic of the USA .During and after the Revolution most of these core aspects of enlightenment were the basic foundation in achieving independence and the American constitution altogether. Fundamental aspects like natural rights, freedom of expression and the public view of the governmental organs came as a result of enlightenment. Locke, a renowned philosopher and other philosophers established the foundation for the colonial and the modern America. (Israel, 2011).
The Enlightenment was a period of time that stressed the importance of reason and individual ideas. Many philosophers published works criticizing a country’s monarch or divulging the flaws they saw in a system within the government, such as the justice system. The Enlightenment also stressed the importance of education, and as a result of this, literacy rates experienced a major upward trend. Now able to read the philosopher’s works, a larger sum of people now were educated on the corruptions within their government. This caused a questioning of traditional practices, and people began to believe they could revise their government.
In the English colonies in North America, they experienced a time of church reform which provided a tie with the new Church of England. This created many political communities based off of a British outline and way of life. Other ties led to the beginning of evangelical protestantism in the North American colonies. Also, the emergence of “The Enlightenment” caused many american colonists to diversify and expand their religion, some even followed art.
The Great Awakening refer to several periods of dramatic religious revival in Anglo-American religious history. They have also been described as periodic revolutions in American religious thought. The Age of Enlightenment refers to either the eighteenth century in European philosophy, or the longer period including the seventeenth century and the Age of Reason. I would have to go with the Enlightenment because it is the basis of our political culture and it led to the Great Awakening, which is the basis of our spiritual culture.
In conclusion, the Enlightenment was vital to the American Revolution and the creation of American Government. The Enlightenment beliefs that influenced the American Revolution were natural rights, the social contract, and the right to overthrow the government if the social contract was violated. The Enlightenment beliefs that aided to the creation of the American government were separation of powers, checks and balances, and limited government. As stated before, without the Enlightenment there would not have been a revolution, resulting in no American Government. The Enlightenment’s influence on the creation of America is irrefutable.
In the eighteenth century a new period of change swept across Europe because of previous intellectual developments as well as some very strong and independent people who stood up against common belief. The Enlightenment of the eighteenth century was like nothing that had ever occurred in Europe, shortly after the Scientific Revolution, this period was classified as a period where intellectuals “dared to know”. Even though the effects of this period mostly affected the elite few that were able to read, the effects would affect everyone. This period focused on looking back at previous discoveries and making one’s own opinion as well as sharing it with other intellectuals.
