Our world is cruel and dangerous, many believe in sheltering the future generations from the harsh reality of life. Unfortunately, these individuals are mistaken, yes leaving them unaware may spare their innocence but in the process they grow up living without caution. The eviction of “The Wars” will add to this error, the book discusses many topics, in which students can learn from and use to better themselves.
Students are taught about the hardships of war, the great “war heroes” and triumph of soldiers but, it is not what they are taught that is the problem. School teaches these subjects without revealing all that really happened, they do not speak about the corners that were cut or the horrible things comrades did to each other, not even the evil deeds these so called “war heroes” did. An example of this is when Robert Ross attended the brothel with his army buddies, yes this may be visual and a little inappropriate for schools but as mentioned in the article “grade 12 students are adults who should face rather than be shielded from such realities” (citations).
