(Nozick, 43).
Today’s society is one of instants: Instant downloads, instant messaging, instant shipping, instant oatmeal, instant movies, instant gratification. For many, the idea of having the world on a whim is a thrilling human achievement. For others, such as Paul Roberts and Aldous Huxley, this instant gratification is their nightmare. In Robert’s case, he theorizes that humans are designed to work hard and to struggle. By taking away any sort of effort and hardship, humans are being numbed, dumbed down and destructive.
Poetry is an effective means used to convey a variety of emotions, from grief, to love, to empathy. This form of text relies heavily on imagery and comparison to inflict the reader with the associated feelings. As such, is displayed within Stephen Dunn 's, aptly named poem, Empathy. Quite ironically, Dunn implores strong diction to string along his cohesive plot of a man seeing the world in an emphatic light. The text starts off by establishing the military background of the main protagonist, as he awaits a call from his lover in a hotel room.
Carol Dweck, the author of the book entitled “Mindset”, did a great job of portraying her inquisitive thoughts throughout the book. Also, the book was informative and made me wonder about my “mindset” and my life in the future. Dweck, throughout the book, explains that mindsets start early as a child and perseveres into adulthood. She explains that this mindset can drive many aspects of our lives going from parenting and being in relationships to sports, school, and work. Most of the book which stands out to me, is the author’s encouragement to her readers, that anyone can change their mindset at any time, age, or state of mind in their life.
There are several Psychological theories that could contribute a path to delinquency. They include psychodynamic theory, the attachment theory, the moral development theory and the behavioral theory just to name a few. In researching information on Eric Smith, I believe he had several underlying issues that contributed to his violent senseless crime against a helpless little boy. I feel the lack of moral development was a huge factor that caused this youth to explode. Eric Smith was 13 years old, in 1993, when he murdered Derrick Robie, a 4-year-old little boy.
It applies everywhere and is a concept that most have. Happiness is achieving your own dreams and fulfilling your own need of satiation. In the play Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman could not achieve his happiness because he could not provide everything he dreamed of. He was always worrying, he never had enough, and was troubled.
Annotated Bibliography In Roth’s Book, The Achievement Habit he maps out how to get into the habit of achieving true success. Chapter 1 is titled, “Nothing Is What You Think It Is”. In this chapter the main idea is that nothing has meaning. Everything only has the meaning you give it.
The movie Inside Out is about 11-year-old Riley who lives in Minnesota with her Mom and Dad. What makes this film so unique is that the story is ultimately about Riley’s emotions, Sadness, Anger, Anxiety, Disgust, and of course, Joy. The audience experiences Riley’s life through the lens of Joy, the protagonist. Joy’s primary goal was to keep Riley and most of her memories happy, but when the family moved from their home in Minnesota to California, Riley’s emotions started acting differently, specifically Sadness. For example, Sadness touched a memory, and subsequently became tainted with sadness, which greatly troubled Joy.

Roger’s Humanist Theory believes, “That humans are innately good and that they are growth oriented,” (Nye, pg. 105, 2000). Due to the fact that this theory has the belief that individuals are inherently good, Beth’s negative behaviors are not part of her personality, but formed out of her early childhood environment. The Humanistic approach also states, to reach self-actualization, the environment surrounding an individual must be nurturing (Sougstad, Humanistic Psychology, 2018); Beth was not afforded with this type of environment, explaining her negative and harmful behaviors towards her family. In addition, the Humanistic Theory also concludes, “Humans basically need and want both personal fulfillment and close, intimate relationships with others,” (Nye, Pg. 98, 2000). Referring back to Beth’s early childhood environment again, the lack of an appropriate, intimate and caring relationship between her and her biological parents left her without the needed environment to fully develop.

As a child, most learn that sharing is caring. Giving something that is abundant to the individual to those who could benefit from it is a concept as old as civilization. Naturally, as humans, we seek to be happy and more often than not, make others happy. Thus the utilitarian view was created, but what does that mean? What exactly is happiness and how does one go about spreading happiness it to others?
Personality is the way one behaves, thinks and feels. Theorists are interested to learn what shapes personality, what causes one to behave, think and feel the way one does. Different theorists have different beliefs in what causes these individual differences. These individual differences can be split into two categories, nature and nurture. Nature would be environment while nature would be the brain and the genes, also known as genotype.

Happiness is an amazing thing and makes one feel great, but can too much happiness be a bad thing? Too much happiness is a surprising statement, but is nonetheless true, because too much happiness can have negative impacts on one's life. Negative emotions, despite the fact that they are less coveted than the positive emotions, serve just as vital a role in terms of giving perspective, creating arguments, and preventing unnecessary risk.
