The Fate of Ten, by Pittacus Lore, a book set in New York City and Mexico, is narrated by two main people, John, known as Number 4, and Katrina, known as Number 6. This book is the sixth in its series and I have read them all. I began to read this series a few years back, and went from book to book, even doing a previous book report on the first book, until I got to the penultimate novel in the series. Six and Seven arrive at the sanctuary in Mexico where they promptly put items that they obtained from a Garde chest into the temple. His shift in power really happens when he is fighting to protect New York and the blue energy makes many new Garde out of humans. A human feels pain as a new power in developing. As John reaches to heal the pain of one new Garde, Daniela, he suddenly develops the same power: “It doesn’t help Daniela, but something does happen when the energy flows between us. At this point, he and the other Garde learn that he can add many new powers to his arsenal through touch. John was already treated as a leader in some ways but, with his new ability to get many new powers, he will clearly lead the Garde in the next
