The Federalist Papers, a term that emerged in the twentieth century, are a collection of 85 essays published from October 1787 through August 1788. They were then compiled and published in two volumes called The Federalist in 1788 by J. and A. McLean. These documents provided support for the ratification of the United States Constitution.
