The film Boy A is based on a book by Jonathan Trigell which is based on a true story of a three-year-old boy who is murdered by two ten-year-old boys. The story depicted in the film is about a boy, named Eric Wilson, who at a young age was convicted of murdering Angela Milton with his friend Philip Craig and is now trying to live a new life under the identity of Jack Burridge from Newton. Knowing his cover has been blown, Jack believes he now only has one option left: run away. He feels as though he as no option left, wherever he goes from now on people will be looking for him. So as the movie ends, he arrives at a pier where he runs into Michelle one last time before he makes his final move. We can see Jack standing on the edge of the pier about to jump as his last voicemails to Terry and Chris are being played. All this, I firmly believe, is caused by the pressure from the media to find the Eric Wilson is now back in society. There is a constant drive to find this boy who murdered a girl so many years ago, but to Jack that boy doesn’t exist anymore. Jack isn’t that boy anymore, he’s moved past that and is now Jack Burridge. He even tells Chris in one of his last messages, that he is Jack and always has been.
