The First Radio This invention changed the way we got news, music, and even how we viewed entertainment. The radio was invented by Serbian-American scientist Nikola Tesla and Italian physicist Guglielmo Marconi. They went head-to-head in what would become the race to invent the radio. Radio waves transmit music, conversations, pictures and data invisibly through the air, often over millions of miles. Iit happens every day in thousands of different ways. The radio was used for entertainment, communication, and news. In 1943 Marconi's company sued the U.S. government for patent infringement during World War 1, but the case never made it to court. Instead to avoid the lawsuit the U.S. Supreme Court upheld patent 645,576, thus restoring Tesla (who had died a few months earlier) as the inventor of the radio. Although many people still consider Marconi the inventor of the radio. …show more content…
Now if you ask who invented it you would probably get mixed answers. The stories are as clear as the Mississippi and involved scientific discovery, lawsuits, and marketing. Tesla patented his famous tesla coil that could send and receive radio waves and the U.S. Patent Office would later say Marconi relied on for his work. Marconi had been conducting his own experiments. In 1896 he sent and received Morse code-based radio signals at distances of nearly 4 miles in England. That same year, he applied for, and was granted, the world's first patent in wireless telegraphy in
