1.4 TYPES OF COMPUTERS
Since the advent of the first computer different types and sizes of computer are offering different services. Computer can be as big as occupying a large building and as small as a-laptop or a microcomputer in mobile and embedded systems. The four basic types of computer are.
(1) Supercomputer
(2) Mainframe Computer
(3) Mini Computer
(4) Micro Computer

1.4.1 Supercomputer
The most powerful computers in terms of performance and data processing are the supercomputer. These are specialized and task specific computer used by large organizations. These computers are used for research and exploration purposes, like NASA uses supercomputers for launching space shuttles, controlling them and for space exploration purpose. …show more content…

(2) People can use sophisticated statistical and mathematical tools for division making and further purpose without learning in details the algorithms used for computing. In this way people can use much more. Sophisticated analytical tools would have been possible with only manual information processing.
(3) Computers can store large volumes of information without copying too much space as in the case of information stored in form of books and paper documents.
(4) Computer Processing eliminates the human errors of computing and information processing.
(5) Information once entered in computer system can be easily accessed by the same person or other persons at different times for different persons. This reduces the work load of capturing same information multiples times for different purpose. It also makes it possible for different person to work with the same information, avoiding the same possibility of different persons this reduces the work load of capturing same, information multiples times for different persons using different Purposes. It also makes it possible for different persons using different versions of the same …show more content…

Also technological complexities of this equipment are compared to equipments to of manual information processing,
(2) Use of computers require additional infrastructure, such as power supply and software back up, this increases the chances of problems due to failure of infrastructure, for example, a computer will not work where there is no electric supply. Even a laptop with a battery will not work without power supply only for a limited period.
(3) Failures of computer system can be serious and difficult to correct for example, one scratch on a hard disk can make system faults have comparatively limited impact. One page torn from a cabinet full of documents has no impact on other documents.
(4) Computer generally reduces the error of processing. However if there is an error in input data, it can result in major blunders in the processing which the computer system is unable to detect, in manual systems the chances of such blunders processing undetected and corrected is much
