The genre of the short story Lusus Naturae by Margaret Atwood is victorian fiction. To begin, the text is set in the 1800’s. This is clearly shown when the protagonist describes how her “mother...would take away the chamber pot”(Atwood 6) and how people were “marching towards (her) house... with long steaks, with torches”(Atwood 9). Chamber pots and torches were used mainly in the 1800’s and therefore, the authors use of them, blatantly hints to that time period, which in an important element of victorian fiction. Secondly, the story focuses on social values. After she was diagnosed, the protagonist's was concerned for her family's well being, “Our family had always been respected, and even liked... It still would be, if something could be
