The book The girl who was Saturday night was written by Heather O'Neill. The story has three main characters, a girl names Nouschka Tremblay. Her twin brother, Nicholas. And their father, Étienne. Childhood means good memorizes for most people, but not for Nouschka and Nicholas. Their father makes up cute words and forces Nouschka and Nicholas saying it in the talk show to his selfish. In this way, he earns some fame for himself. He thought himself as a super star. However, for the Québec people, he just like a familiar passenger. And for the twins, the existence of their father means a nightmare. Étienne always come back in the late night with the ‘trophy’ from the squalor benders, or, even worse, end up in a jail. He inflects a dissolute lifestyle, which makes he embarked on a downhill in his career. What’s more, he didn’t response to his duty in his family, whatever as a father, a son, or a husband. We need to figure out what is the most important thing rather than frame and wealth. It also tells us that how important the parents are for the family and their children. Every parent should take responsibility to their family. What’s more, even though the past want swallow us in to darkness, we should never stop trying bravely to start a new life—just like Nouschka does. One of the highlights of this book is it has a lot of quotes which are beautiful, which makes the whole book just like a tragic love opera singing in the midnight, sad, touching, but beautiful. During the reading, one another thing catch my attention is the mode of the narration. This book is trying to tell a sad story, but we can see the language is not that sad, or, a little bit funny.
