The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Analysis Detective fiction has expanded to include a variety of subtopics. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson proves to be a thriller mystery novel. In The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the main protagonists Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander must uncover the secret behind a mysterious disappearance. Uncovering the truth puts their lives and a danger and compromises the standing of the well known company owned by Vanger. The novel begins with the Mikael Blomkvist after his libel conviction because of his Wennerstrom conspiracy. Although Blomkvist solves the mystery of the disappearance of Harriet, he must contradict his morality in the process. By not being able to expose Harriet’s father and brother as rapists and murderers, he violates his own morality by leaving Vanger’s name clean. In addition, by not being able to come to light about the serial killings, the victims and the consequences of the murders are left with an open ending. In addition, Mikael’s multiple partners through the text further the conventions of thrillers. Mikael is introduced as the lover of his boss, then sleeps with Salander, and then later with a relative of Vanger. The Salander’s character reinforces thriller conventions. Her use of violence throughout the text to gain information proves so. She saves Mikael from Martin Vanger, and must attack Martin to protect her own life. In addition, she uses her hacking abilities as a weapon against her personal antagonist. In the novel, Salander is victim to sexual violence in the hands of her legal guardian. Violence in detail against investigators is common in
